Initiation

This stage is define a new project at a high level in order to demonstrate its business value.
- Business Plan : Outline the Return of Investment (ROI), Risk Assessment (Market, Technical ..)
- Project Charter : Outline the project goal/purpose, budget & material resources & team/expert needed.
- Project Plan : Draft a list of rough actions, schedules, due dates & deliverables of the project life cycle.


Planning

This stage is define project roadmap, including the detail project plan, project scope, project schedule, project constraints, work breakdown structure, and risk analysis.
- Schedule Management : Detail out the timelines, stages, activities, milestones & deliverables in project plan.
- Team Management : Structure out team members, engineering, manufacturing, quality, procurement.
- Communication & Others : Bridging communication cross functional team, staffing, cost control ..


Execution

This is a stage where everything on project plan put into action.
PM will suffer many execution gaps, end out deadlines getting pushed over and over again. Project plan become a suggestion than a rule.
- Execution Gap#1 : Goal & timelines are too ambitious. (Material readiness, Equipment delivery time, Manufacturing issue ...)
- Execution Gap#2 : Limited clarity about the goal of the project. (Team member not align on the requirement ...)
- Execution Gap#3 : Lack of buy in from key players. (Mid management not align on the project priority ...)

A great project team will have everybody do their job correctly, real time reporting, brainstorm issues & propose potential solution, routine meeting ...


Monitor

This stage is to track a project’s metrics, progress, and associated tasks to ensure everything is completed according to project requirements and standards. Project monitoring also includes having periodically meeting to review log and summary, recognizing and identifying roadblocks or issues that arise during the project’s execution, and taking action to rectify these problems.
- Quality Control : Make sure product meeting specification & reliability requirement.
- Manufacturability : Make sure production line capable on producing product with high yield, high line efficiency.
- Project Plan Update : Update the project plan (schedule, cost) from time to time, and align within cross functional team.


Closure

This stage to reviews the deliverables, then compares the result to the intended project outcome. Then summmarise the lesson learn from the every stage. Lastly, having wrap up meeting and showing appreciation to team members.
- Tie Up Loose End : Completed all pending paperworks, finalise shipment/budget/inventory/resources summary.
- Lesson Learn : List out obstacles/issues in every PLC stage, documenting lesson learned and actions.
- Appreciation : Call out a meeting with project members & management, provide full summary of the project, giving appreciation to recognice everybody's hardwork.
